There was a school visit by 85 Farrer Park Primary School to NUS New Town hosted by the NUS student community on 4 October 2012, Thursday, from 9.00am to 11.00am. This initiative comes under the Active Volunteerism – Future-Ready Children from Low Income homes. The students were treated to a buffet breakfast, toured around the school and had games, lucky draw. On 29 September 2012, under the gentle glow of a full moon, Moulmein residents gathered at Pek Kio CC to celebrate the annual Mid-Autumn Festival.
The colourful event was a great success with the residents- especially the children, who thoroughly enjoyed everything from the KFC dinner to the various activities such as a magic show, fire-breathing, lantern-painting, trying moon cakes, muah chee and ting ting, tea appreciation, games like uno stacko, riddle-guessing, pomelo-peeling, and darts, and especially the lantern procession led by drummers and a long, twinkling dragon around the Kent Ville jogging path. Team Building Programme for GRLs - Moulmein-Kallang GRC was held on 22 September 2012 (Saturday). It is a day event at Outward Bound School - Pulau Ubin. Members were broken into groups and had to overcome many obstacle stations. It was a fun and fruitful gathering for members who attended. The Moulmein National Day Dinner was held on 11 August 2012 (Saturday) at the basketball court of Pek Kio Community Centre. YEC was in charge of the programme for the night and assisted in ushering as well. The programme consisted of performances by schools in the Moulmein Constituency like Anglo-Chinese School, Singapore Chinese Girls' School, Balestier Hill Primary School, Balestier Hill Secondary School, National Junior College, Farrer Park Primary School, Raffles Girls' Primary School and Tai-Pei Child Care. We also have performances from Pek Kio Wushu,Tanglin Indian Dance club. Our emcee, Sharlyn Lim, and singer, Peixin are also Moulmein Residents. The dinner started with the ACS Boys Brigade Band - Bagpipers leading our GOH, Grassroots Adviser Mr Lui Tuck Yew, to his dinner table. It was a night of interesting performances, good food and good fun! Congratulations to our chairman, Grace, for being awarded the Constituency Merit Service Award and our Vice-Chairman, Darren, for being awarded the Constituency Commendation Service Award. The Moulmein National Day Observance 2012 was held on 8 August 2012 (Wednesday) from 7.30pm – 10.30pm at Blk 50 Dorset Road (Basketball Court and Open Space) and jointly organised by various Moulmein GROs. The campfire programme was spearheaded by YEC. We had a group of NPCC cadets who were motivators for the campfire songs and dance. The guest of honour for the event was our Grassroots Adviser Mr Lui Tuck Yew. A total of close to 400 residents turned up for the event! Pek Kio CC YEC collaborated with Cambridge NC for this project and conducting house visits to the landed houses around Pek Kio to promote the display of National Flags by distributing them the state flags on 8 July 2012 (Sunday) from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. We distributed to more than 100 Cambridge NC residents. Residents had very good feedback as they felt this was a good initiative to encourage residents to display the national flags. Moulmein Dumpling Festival @ Wan Qing Yuan was held on 24 June 2012 (Saturday) from 10.00am to 2.00pm at Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall. YEC collaborated with Pek Kio WEC to man the balloon sculpturing booth. Pek Kio YEC, WEC members and Balestier Hill Secondary School students helped to create balloon sculptures for the participants. Some of our YEC members also enjoyed helping to serve and accompany the elderly from Ta Pei Old Age Home and Singapore Christian Home. We organized an educational tour to Pasir Ris Kids Kampung on
10 June 2012 (Sunday) from 9.15pm to 12.15pm. The activities for this educational tour included: Longkang Fishing & Animal Feeding. We received positive feedback and the children enjoyed. The Go-Green: Project E.A.R.T.H Recycling Drive VII was
successfully completed on 27 May 2012 (Sunday) from 10.00am to 12.30pm at the 2 collection points namely: Blk 51 Kent Road and Pek Kio Food Market. The total weightage of recyclables collected from the 2 collection points is approximately 650kg and residents were able to exchange food items in return for the recyclables. The recycling drive is a joint collaborative project between Pek Kio YEC and the NEA and for this recycling drive, we have participation from the pupils of Farrer Park Primary School. The project is a hugely successful one and we would like to thank Farrer Park Primary School for sending its pupils to participate in this project. On 24 March 2012, Moulmein organized Health Screening and Blood Donation Drive at Velocity @ Novena Square. It was jointly organized by Pek Kio Youth Executive Committee and Moulmein Active Aging Committee, supported by other Moulmein Grassroots Organisations, Resident’s Committees, Neighbourhood Committees and 32 students from Balestier Hill Secondary School. The event was graced by our Grassroots Adviser, Mr Lui Tuck Yew. The theme for the event was “Leading a Healthy Lifestyle and to Promote a Sense of Giving”. It was the first time for Moulmein to hold it’s Health Screening at a shopping mall, and also the first time we organize a Blood Donation Drive. WE look forward to this event being organised annually. |
